SUMMARY:Motivational Interviewing for Parents of Teens
DESCRIPTION:At Fairview High School\nCommunication consultant Karen Alonge will teach us a few communication skills from Motivational Interviewing — a collaborative conversation style that helps enhance motivation and commitment to change. You’ll come away with several strategies for facilitating productive conversations with your teens about creating positive changes in their own lives. You’ll also learn how to minimize your likelihood of triggering resistance and defensiveness. \n \n“Change is exhilarating when done by us\, and exasperating when done to us.” – Rosabeth Moss Kanter. We can leave this out if necessary \n“Quite often\, when we respectfully invite people to articulate their own reasons and plans for making a change\, they will talk themselves into changing.” – Karen Alonge \nAbout Karen Alonge: As an interpersonal communication consultant and trainer\, Karen’s specialty is communication strategies for reducing resistance and defensiveness. She’s a member of the Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers and has trained and coached thousands of Motivational Interviewing learners over the past decade. In her free time\, when Karen isn’t hiking or falling into internet search rabbit holes\, she is writing. She recently published her first book: Just Two Words: Tiny Mantras for a Satisfying Life.  Karen’s book will be for sale at the event. \nThis event is free but RSVPs are appreciated.  REGISTER HERE \nDOWNLOADABLE FLYER \nMotivational Interviewing (SP -1) – SPANISH FLYER
