At Fairview High School
Communication consultant Karen Alonge will teach us a few communication skills from Motivational Interviewing — a collaborative conversation style that helps enhance motivation and commitment to change. You’ll come away with several strategies for facilitating productive conversations with your teens about creating positive changes in their own lives. You’ll also learn how to minimize your likelihood of triggering resistance and defensiveness.
“Change is exhilarating when done by us, and exasperating when done to us.” – Rosabeth Moss Kanter. We can leave this out if necessary
“Quite often, when we respectfully invite people to articulate their own reasons and plans for making a change, they will talk themselves into changing.” – Karen Alonge
